The School of Planning, Design, and Construction (SPDC) has the opportunity to be the first School or Department in the United States to successfully integrate the disciplines of Construction Management, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning into one unit that is seamlessly focused on a sustainable built environment.
To achieve a sustainable built environment requires an integration of the four disciplines through discovery, engagement and learning. SPDC will be the first to accomplish this integration and at the same time conduct clear and needed discovery and engagement to serve not only our students, but also the future of our external stakeholders locally and globally.
As a School, we seek a $15,000,000 endowment which will allow SPDC to create a new paradigm shift to fund discovery, engagement and learning focused on how to achieve a sustainable built environment that enhances the environment we live in, increases our quality of life, and at the same time is economically viable for the construction, landscape and architecture industries. Within this endowment we seek to have a new endowed chair in Sustaining the Built Environment, support for graduate recruitment and retention, support for undergraduate recruitment and retention, support for creativity and entrepreneurialism, and support for international programs and study abroad.
The endowment itself will be the largest known for a university to create a Sustainable Built Environment program in the United States and will allow SPDC to attract the best faculty and students from around the world.
Thanks to our Alumni and Donors that will enable us to reach this goal!
Sincerely,
Scott Witter
