Outreach, Engagement & Extension Programs

The School features several outreach programs, research centers, & institutes dedicated to advancing knowledge in communities to transform lives on a local and global scale.

Housing Education and Research Center (HERC)
HERC will primarily function as an adjunct research, reducation and training arm of the Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB). This center will work with individual builders, associate members, utility companies, and various non-profit organizations. By pooling these resources, the HERC will provide a variety of outreach, research, training, and problem solving services to various sectors of the housing industry in Michigan.

Small Town Design Initiative/Community Design Initiative
The Small Town Design Initiative (STDI) is a "go-to" resources for Michigan's small communities for physical enviromental design assistance in community development and land use.

Urban Collaborators (UC)
An inter-disciplinary effort working to resolve urban issues facing Michigan's cities.

Urban Planning Partnerships (UPP)
Seeking to facilitate timely research and outreach.

Center for Community & Economic Development
CCED initiates and supports innovative problem-solving strategies to improve the quality of life in Michigan's communities. University outreach faculty members foster programmatic relationships with local constituent groups and organizations across Michigan to facilitate the flow of new innovations and information between the university and the communities.

Smart Michigan
A project to foster economic and social development through policies and plans that harness the many opportunities of the knowledge-based information age.

The Center for Construction Project Performance Assessment and Improvement
C2P2ai was conceived in June 2006 as a result of mutual interest between the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Operations (OVPFO) and the Construction Management Program faculty at Michigan State University. The center will primarily provide research, outreach, and education services to all stakeholders in the construction industry.

The Electronic Space Project
E*space was originally developed with IPPSR's support in the early 1990s to examine the oncoming influence of information technology on society. Since its inception, it has produced a number of research initiatives and projects, growing at the same rapid pace that technology has grown to be a central part of society's core.
